What is J Pro DC?
J Pro DC is an affinity group of local professionals working in the field of Jewish affiliated with the JCSA (Jewish Communal Service Association) and is part of a national network of local groups across North America.
What can J Pro DC provide for me and my organization?
Professional Development
Establishing a local group of the JCSA provides an opportunity for the Greater Washington, DC community in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia to bring together multiple Jewish Communal Professionals working on behalf of the community and create professional development opportunities that may not otherwise be possible by sole organizations.
Networking and Mentoring
Creating a local Jewish professional group in the Greater Washington DC area will foster networking, provide valuable collaborative opportunities, and encourage community-wide sharing of educational resources and best practices. J Pro DC will also enable young professionals the opportunity to be mentored by the local and national community leaders.
Recruitment
J Pro DC will help recruit and retain quality professionals and provide career enhancement to local professionals, lengthening the time professionals stay in the field as well as the Greater Washington DC community.
Professionalizing the Field
By bringing together the ideas and knowledge of professionals from different organizations, a local association will help to define and promote the field of Jewish communal service.
What are some of the benefits that J Pro DC is creating?
-
New professionals (both to the field and to the DC community) will benefit from a formal welcome by a colleague, accompanied by an informational packet on our professional community, networking opportunities, and coaching/mentoring.
-
J Pro DC could sponsor professional development events several times a year. This would benefit agencies that do not have the financial capability to send their professionals to conferences. These events would attract large numbers of our colleagues, enable networking and provide the environment to create collaborative or community based initiatives.
-
Development of networking groups cohorts (i.e. development professionals) to enable colleagues of similar backgrounds and responsibilities to learn from each other. Several of these groups currently exist, so we would not intend to duplicate efforts. These loose organizations could meet on an ad-hoc independent basis.
-
Mentoring/coaching opportunities can provide a professional experience for both new and established professionals within our community.
Who can participate in J Pro DC events and programs?
Any professional in the Greater Washington DC area that works in the field of Jewish Communal Service is invited and welcome to participate in J Pro DC events. A steering committee is meeting now to further develop the mission, ideas and first events of the group. If you are interested in getting involved, please e-mail Lisa Helfman at info@jprodc.org
What are the next steps J Pro DC is taking to get the group up and running?
- A letter to all local Executive Directors (from Executive Directors on the steering committee) explaining the benefits of J Pro DC for their organizations and staff.
- A grassroots marketing effort, including providing talking points to all steering committee members to explain the benefits of the association to their colleagues.
- Planning and publicizing a Meet and Greet event in early July to gather the community of local Jewish Communal Service Professionals.
- Posting of information about the group’s formation on relevant organization websites as well as the creation of a J Pro DC website.
- Generating opportunities to speak at staff meetings around the community on behalf of the association and its benefits.
